detect computer architecture


How do you get the architecture of a computer?

What exactly do you want? To know if your PC is a i586, amd, etc.?

You could try uname -m

Or you could do less /proc/cpuinfo ( some consider this one of the abuses of the proc system ).

Or just look at your manual for the cpu or computer.
