desktop lock
 

I have a simple question:
What is the command to lock my gnome 2.4 desktop without activating the screensaver or blank screen? In other words, I want the desktop to look normal.

I have Xlock, xlockmore 5.11.1
and xscreensaver v. 4.16

I am on SuSE 9.1 pro

With xscreensaver you could use glslideshow as the
screensaver module, turn off all gimmicks and ask it
to grab the desktop ... the only way to know it's locked
will be that the clock is "stuck" ... I don't know off other
ways to lock the box without screensaver-functionality.
