im having some problems installing aim/gaim with mandrake 10.0
both have dependency issues if i do it with the rpm -ivh blahblah.rpm command and if i just double click the file to bring up some installer program it asks for the install cds but when i provide them, it just freezes.
now ive tried my best to figure out where i can get the files that they need for dependency but have come up empty handed.
ive read that yast can get the files that are needed for you but im not sure how i can get that for mandrake.
any ideas?
i know i probably deserve a good flaming right now cause this question has probably been asked before but ive been searching forums and other sites for days trying different stuff and this is my last ditch effort...
ok so let me see if im getting this. http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ gives me the command to download and install urpmi
and then urpmi will install the gaim rpm and all its dependent files
yah i went there and did what it said
and it downloaded something and did some other stuff
and man urpmi brings up its man page but i cant get urpmi to install the file for me
...viewing the man page in that console screen is annoying too cause you cant scrool you have to press up and down repeatedly
name_of_software : is the name of the rpm but WITHOUT any version number nor i586.rpm extensions.
e.g. : urpmi gaim installs the « contrib » rpm gaim-<version>mdk.i586.rpm
oooh ok i was trying to do the entire file name thats why it didnt work
ill try that
edit: i tried it
it said to satisfy dependencies it had to install a bunch of other packages and then asked if this was ok(Y/n)
i typed y and hit enter and its just been sitting there doing nothing for 10 minutes
urpmi finished yah but im talking about when i did the command urpmi gaim
it gave me the list of dependent files and then say continue y/n and i hit y and it sat there for a looooong time and then it asked for install cd 1 and so i put it in and hit enter and now its just sitting again
