Dell truemobile wireless card

I have installed Fedora 6 on a Dell Inspiron 8600. This lap top is Fedora Linux friendly in that everything works other than the wireless card.

My wireless router has an Ethernet port, so I get on line via a cable. The cable is no big deal, but wireless would be nice.

Is there a wireless driver that is known to work with a Dell Inspiron 8600? A Fedora-repository-RPM obtainable driver?

Thanks.

You have to identify the chipset used in the Dell wireless card. They frequently use the broadcom wireless chipset and with most of those, you can usually get it going with ndiswrapper. Ndiswrapper is an application that allows you to use windows wireless drivers in linux.

To check which chipset is on the dell card run:

$ lspci

and look for a line that references the wireless card. Frequently, "Dell" wireless cards will have a signature like this:

Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4309 802.11a/b/g (rev 03)

If it looks like that, you can almost surely get it working with ndiswrapper and the windows driver.
