Dell B1160W mono laser printer not working

Hello

I've just purchased a Dell Mono laser printer model B1160W. The printer works in windows but not in linux. I am using PClinuxOS 2014.04

About 7 years ago on another laser printer I configured that printer by selecting the Generic brand and then the Post script language driver and it worked. Unfortunately, this step didn't work for this dell printer.

In this day in age all printers should work with linux out of the box like ethernet cards do. If anyone have ideas or suggestions please post.

Thanks

There are some linux driver there for this printer.

Tell the manufactures of these devices.

Before you buy any hardware, check to see if the manufacturer produces linux drivers. Dell printers are usually Lexmark printers re-branded. Lexmark has no interest in linux.

HP and Brother are two of the best at linux support.

Thanks, I've already solved it by going to dell website. The only driver they had for linux was for redhat enterprise 5/6.
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/...b1160w/drivers

Since pclinuxos is rpm based, I took a gable and downloaded the file B1160w_Linux_v1.04_Driver.tar.gz, unpacked it and ran the install.sh script.

To my surprised it worked. I didn't get any error messages during setup. It did ask me to reboot for the configurations to take effect.

After rebooting, I printed a test page and a document and they printed just fine.
