Deleted boot option for LILO in Mandrake... how do i get it back?!

Knowing me, since this is the "newb" section of the forum... i went in and wanted to change around how linux booted. I deleted the select for "NT" which is windows... and now i can't boot back into windows. NT is located on the hda1 partition, but when i go to "add" a new boot option, it just gives me the grub menu and it tells me that the "filesystem" is unknown. Thanks to anyone in advance for helping me to get back into windows!

can anyone help me? what do i need to add to lilo.conf?
This is what i have for windows in lilo.conf:
other=/dev/hda1
label=windows
table=/dev/hda
map-drive=0x80
to=0x80

when i boot into that option, i get a "grub hard drive error" i assume it's an error when it can't read the drive or it's size.

well are you using GRUB or LILO? if you're getting grub error messages then you're obviosuly not using lilo anyway, so you can change the lilo.conf file all you want and it won't help. also that map-drive chunk is irrelevant, it should just be the other= and label= lines normally. so run "lilo" AS ROOT to reinstall lilo. i'd assume that whatever configuration program your using, which you haven't specified, has put grub on with or without asking you. ot lilo back. IF you want lilo that is. if not then edit the grub configurations

if i reinstall linux, will it rewrite everything and put all the options back? - cause i have way too much info on my NTFS partition, and only about 200 kb of info on Linux.
I'm not entirely sure what manager i'm using, but if the reinstallation of Linux will fix it, then so be it. i'll reinstall.

you reinstalled on something as simple as that? that should have been very easy to fix....as for what you've got now.. not a clue. i'd just suggest using lilo, as it's more common and easier to configure. and of course make sure you're using a new distro.

yeah but now he has a very wierd problem...it looks to me like grub got installed on hda1's bootsector, so lilo passing control to that which isn't winnt but grub...uh-oh, try using an nt install disk with recovery install...that should let you fix the bootsector

Post a copy of /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.conf. Which ever one you have.

The section for nt would look like this:

title NT
root (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

I fixed it.. turns out my boot.ini for Windows (or as i like to call it winblows) was corrupted and the "FIXBOOT" command from the dos prompt worked just fine, thanks for all of your help.
