Deleted an LVM partition
 

I was dicking around today and I deleted an LVM partition, is there anyway I can restore the partition and add it back to my volume group or is it game over? any help is always appreciated.

You have to be more detailed with your question. You won't be helped here simply by saying that you broke something and you need someone to fix it.

My question to you is how did you "deleted" LVM partition?
Are you sure you deleted the LVM portion and not an Volume Group?

You can find out if your system still has an LVM in tact by running the following command:
If you simply moved the Logical Volume from the active Volume Group, than you might be able to restore it, otherwise your completely out of luck.

If you merely deleted the partition, use fdisk to redefine it - in exactly the same place.
Else use testdisk to go do the grunt work for you.

It was just the partition I deleted with fdisk, funnily or not so funnily I was trying to make some room so that i could back up my laptop onto it. I used testdisk to recreate the partition and everythings fixed now, thanks, thats hugely appreaciated.

I know my first post was rather short and lacking in info, but at the time I was just thinking 'Oh shit!'. Simply saying the more info was needed or how have you deleted it would have been enough, comments like '..You won't be helped here simply by saying that you broke something and you need someone to fix it.' just makes you sound like a condescending twat, I read allot of posts from windows users saying that the linux community is like this and in all the years I've read this forum it's the first time I've actually seen it. This forum is here to help people, so help them, don't patronize them or they'll not come back

I was just trying to give you a suggestion on how to ask for help. If I'm not mistaken, at the time of my reply the thread had over 50 views and yet no one had hesitated to replied to your post.

Nobody is patronising you, the information in your first post was insufficient for me to be able to help you. So I moved on, because I am tired of asking for more information and then being abused.

That's very true. And he waited until your thread had 50 views, with no answers, and then suggested that you should supply more information. In my opinion, he was trying to be helpful, as am I now.

Please try to keep these forums civil, by not calling people who are trying to help you "a condescending twat". This only demeans yourself.
