If you specify an exact pattern, that's what it'll search for. if you specify one involving wildcars, it'll do all of those. See man page for grep

an observation:

doing this find command takes a lot of time when searching for like, 50,000 files

is there a faster way?

Use beagle or some other indexing tool to look after the
directory; or get a faster machine.
