Dektop icons

I have Mandrake 9.2 and KDE. I downloaded the Firefox and make a shortcut icon to the desktop. My shortcut icon look's like blank paper, but it's working right. There is the Firefox icon in the folder /firefox/icons, but how can I change the icons? If I copy the Firefox icon (from /firefox/icons) to the desktop and click it, I just get to the folder /firefox/icons.
So, how can I change desktop icons in KDE?

right click on the shortcut you made
click on properties
and click on the picture of the icon in the box that comes up
navigate to the firefox icon and click ok

I right click the the shortcut icon, but there only comes up information of the icon. Only thing that I can do there is change the icons text.

ok
start from the beginning

right click on desktop
choose
Create New "link to application"
in the box that comes up you have three tabs, General, Permissions and Application
in General click on the Cogged wheel picture and then on Browse and then go to where the firefox icon is and click OK
then go to Application and type in the path to the firefox executable (or Browse to it)
example: /home/name/firefox/firefox and then click OK

Thank you very much. Now I know how to do it! The desktop look's better now. Are you still "guaranteed newbie friendly".
