Define Some Computer Jargon And Explain The Applications Thanks

I was in Ubuntu forums and was and still I am interested in having a portable EHD with Ubuntu, Ubuntu CE or Fedora 9 on it, portable.

This means special set up, I learned that the BIOS need prefer USB drive then CD ROM... I now know BIOS is particular to my Dell, ie each computer. What does BIOS stand for?

What is GRUB and MBR what does "Mount" mean? What is the difference between "graphics installer" and, what is the other one?

Thanks.

BIOS: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS

MBR: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_boot_record

GRUB: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_GRUB

Mount: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_system, File systems under Unix-like operating systems

A "graphical installer" is, well, graphical; otherwise the installer would be textual (no graphics, just text).

Also, not all computers support booting from external devices, such as USB or Firewire drives, no matter what OS is on them. That's where the BIOS setting comes in...you have to be able to tell it to boot from USB.
