reboot the pc and be very keen as it boots so that when the screen that has this statement (
Quote:

Press Esc to enter menu...
) comes up you are able to get to it before
Quote:

2secs
are over. after you have entered the menu there are options to boot into....choose the option with the words
Quote:

recovery mode
in brackets.
Quote:

press enter
to run that boot mode. you'll let it run until it is finished...i.e
Quote:

when it presents a screen with various options e.g. resume normal boot, repair broken packages, etc.
choose to
Quote:

(dpkg)repair broken packages
....the process will begin to run...you have to
Quote:

be keen
when its running so that you notice when its prompting for an answer with
Quote:

y/n
in brackets, always
Quote:

choose y by typing y on the keyboard, press enter.
it will finish up the repair and you can now press enter, it'll will reboot as normal. try to add programs again and see what comes up.
