Debian won't recognize Linksys WUSB54G v4 wireless card.

I'm trying to configure Debian Etch (4.0r4) to work with my Linksys WUSB54G version 4 Wireless-G usb Network Adapter. For some reason it does not detect it when I use the iwconfig command (with or without specifying the interface). This adapter has the rt2750 Linux driver made by Ralink the company who makes the chip set for this version (unfortunately this particular driver does not support WPA encryption - a feature which I need - but apparently the card should also work with SerialMonkey's rt2x000 driver which does). I have successfully tested the wireless card under Windows, and both Gentoo and Puppy Linux will at least recognize it (Gentoo as wlan0, Puppy as rausb0) however, I have not been able to connect to the net with either of those distros. One promising resource is this blog which tells how one man was able to get the same adapter working on a WPA network with Debian Sarge. The first step he gives is to make sure to have all the usb related modules enabled in your kernel but, being new to Debian and to Linux in general I have no idea how one would go about doing this. I've Googled around quite a bit but not found anything that told which commands to use. So if anyone has any idea how to get this working I really would appreciate the help.

I think the first step would be to run lsusb (as root) and verify that the hardware is being detected. Then maybe lsmod to determine if the driver module is being loaded. I'd also double check that the Serial Monkey driver supports USB cards.
