debian + windows 8

hi all,

I recently installed windows 8 on my netbook on a seperate partition. however I lost debian as it didn't appear in the boot menu. I went back through the original liveusb and reinstalled grub2. but now windows doesn't appear on the boot menu. anyone know how I can add
both os'es to the menu.
I have tried update-grub2. still nothing.
thanks in advance.

Well If you want to use Linux + Windows, the best practice is install Windows first and then Linux. Windows Installation will not detect any existing Linux installation, but the Linux does.

But if Debian is not detecting the Windows, you can manually add the entries in boot configuration and try booting it.

My Windows OS partition is /dev/sda2, so I added (hd0,1). You want to replace this in your system accordingly.

If you are using grub2 on Debian, you would need to run grub-mkconfig in a terminal as root. You should be able to find more details using the Search feature on the right of this page or using google.
