Debian upgrade fails 4 packages udev, can only boot into safemode
Hi,
Debian testing: Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 I can now only boot into safemode because I cannot get these 4 packages to upgrade: udev media-player-info xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-video-intel udev refuses to configure. The full output is below. I have removed (I made a copy 1st) all mention of virtualbox from /var/lib/dpkg/status and /var/lib/dpkg/available but that made no difference. Probably a bad thing to do. It looks like this bug but I have no clue what they are on about and how to fix it. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugre...?bug=%23590885 Code:

The last post in the report says the bug was fixed. Can you update dpkg?
You can try to start networking in single user mode, or download the package manually. |
As suggested by AlucardZero upgrade to the latest dpkg if you have not done so already
Code:
% wget http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/d/dpkg/dpkg_1.15.8.4_amd64.deb then the easiest fix is probably to edit the status file and fix the version number. Make sure you backup the file first. WARNING UNTESTED COMMANDS BELOW. EXTRA WARNING: NEED TO RUN AS ROOT. Code:
cd /var/lib/dpkg |
uname -a
Linux Flo64 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Wed Aug 25 13:59:41 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux When I boot into single safe mode I have to manually start udev to get network going: /etc/init.d/udev restart I tried both of those solutions but still get the same problem. Quote:

With the help of evo2 and AlucardZero I have got rid of the

/etc/init.d/udev start During boot I am seeing bootmisc.sh fails Still. the 4 packages will not upgrade or install manually with dpkg -i, here is the last log: Code:

/etc/init.d/udev start However the same u-nconfigured udev and 3 other packages remain, only now initramfs-tools has been added to the list, making 5 in total. This is because I did: dpkg-reconfigure initramfs-tools Code:

Solved by the original suggestions... plus one additional and reinstalling initscripts.
