Debian Squeeze Nvidia GT520 driver install problem
I have installed Debian squeeze. But my sreen resolution is very small.
i cant change it. I have Nvidia GT520 graphics card.I tried to install the driver from the following sites https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#configure http://www.unixmen.com/script-to-ins...ith-one-click/ But when i reboot, after initial setups i get a black screen with a cursor flashing.I tried both these links but i got the same result.can anyone help me to properly install the driver? |
Hi
there are some options for you I suggest the best one is http://smxi.org/docs/sgfxi-manual.htm which allows you to choose to install various nvidia drivers --meaning nouveau or closed src nvidia I have no problem if you hate the idea of closed src but I use it ;) 2) The other issue is a poorly constructed xorg.conf post it pls /etc/X11/xorg.conf possible solutions are a) mainly edit it outside X, restart X and hope you made no typos b) use an app to control resolution such as xrandr which may be a part of x11-xserver-utils --but xrandr also has versions for different WM/DE eg lxrandr is the LXDE version and there is arandr----a generic front end to it |
i dont have a file xorg.conf in /etc/X11.i tried to create it using Xorg -configure.But it showed some error.Somethng like "the number of created screens does not match number of detected devices".
But after installing the driver as mentioned in the previous site i got Xorg.conf file and this is what it contains Quote:

this is why I am recommending you try sgfxi
But it showed some error.Somethng like "the number of created screens does not match number of detected devices" Here is mine to compare after suggested script run ---don't worry if you only have one monitor---it won't affect your first monitor Quote:

The NVIDIA driver has its own utility for creating and xorg.conf called nvidia-xconfig. That can be used from the command line to get things started. Then you can run nvidia-settings from within your desktop environment as root to make more changes to xorg.conf and other settings.
