Debian Squeeze live usb video crashes during boot
 

I am trying to get a Live USB going with Debian Squeeze. I get the Splash screen then a few lines of text. The screen goes blank then 2 large lines of colored pixels.

Hardware configuration is: MSI Motherboard - K9N2 Diamond, AMD Phenom 9950 quad core, 2 nVidia GTX 260 core 216 video cards in SLI, and 4 gb Corsair PC 8500 ram.

I have updated my bios, tried just 1 video card, and even used just the onboard video.

There is no splash, that's the SysLinux bootloader you're likely describing.

Can you select any of the options? Did you try the failsafe option?

My install on a Gigabyte AMD 8 core motherboard locked up on the initial screen. It turned out that the .iso did not like my wireless keyboard+mouse. The same .iso worked flawlessly on an older AMD 64.

What installer are you trying to use? graphical or text? I have had similar problems (with Live especially) and find the text installer is less problematic. In the times I have had this there was actually text telling me (the users) to choose a certain option by hitting a certain key. Problem is with teh graphical installer the text was really difficult to decipher but in the text installer I could read it and make the selection I needed to.

This was a real horror story. I started with debian-7.1.0-amd64-netinst.iso which locked up. I tried both graphical and command line. I got the identical behavior from debian-7.1.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso . Took it over to a friend's house who is a retired IT professional. He decided that my keyboard was too sensitive, so he switched to his. That install was successful!! I brought the box home, and none of the keyboards in the house were accepted.
Start all over. I used an old "lenny" net install iso CD, which is no longer supported. However, that loaded a base system. I edited the /etc/apt/sources.list to "squeeze", and <apt-get update>. That gave me the needed information for my key ring. <apt-get dist-upgrade> installed squeeze successfully. Do not attempt to dist-upgrade directly from lenny to wheezy. That does not work.
At that point I ran out of time. The box was shipped off to a location that does not have internet, so further experimentation will have to wait.

Lenny is still supported. If you can get an iso for lenny, build the 0S and then upgrade to swueeze, that should work.
A clean install using debian-7.1.0-amd64-netinst.iso worked flawlessly on an older motherboard.
