Debian network settings - blank

When I open the network settings in Debian(Lenny) I get a blank window instead of the symbols for wireless, wired and modem connection. I'm working on a GNOME desktop on a Asus Eee-Pc 1005HA.

Ah,... my ethernet device isnŽt working! but I have found a way to solve this. IŽve kernel 2.6.26 which doesnŽt support ath9k but 2.6.30 should do it. weŽll see
