Debian Linux Graphical Login Terminal not responding after screen lock

I have been using Linux since 1996, but this problem is
not easy to solve. I have Debian installed, and I do
frequent updates.

uname -a
Linux juno 2.6.18-6-686 #1 SMP Sat Dec 27 09:31:05 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

When I left the machine for a while it went into screen lock mode. When I come back, a graphical terminal prompt me for a password. Initially when I tried to enter the password, once I typed the first letter, it assumes that I have entered the return and told me that I entered the wrong password. After a while, I could not enter any letter at all. The password box just not respond to any key stroke.

This problem does not happen all the time. It happens randomly. Not every time it lock me out.

I can still login through SSH from the network.

I can do all the terminal related staff through another terminal.

My old solution is to reboot the machine. I wonder that someone knows how to solve this problem for good.

hi

that kernel number does not look bleeding edge...maybe you need to look at sidux?

now I am wondering if the issue is how you are getting to the login screen?

I am suggesting you may be pressing a key on the keyboard...and that is recognized as a character in your password?
are you able to see any stars...each star for password character or not?
