Debian/KDE3.5 playing dvd is too slow

Hi All,

I've installed Debian etch on my Thinkpad T43 some days before. Gnome was installed by default. Then I installed libdvdcss2 package and could play dvd. All was ok.

Now I completely reinstalled my system, but don't choose any Desktop Environment. Next I manually installed kde (apt-get install kde) and xorg packages. I have started kde successfully and installed libdvdcss2. But now I have very strange problems with playing dvd - computer is slow down while playing film, audio is ok, but video is.. slow and loose half of frames. It get better when I make player window is very small and it's almost impossible to view film in fullscreen mode.

I have installed ati drivers from www dot ati dot com, but nothing changed.

Please, help me to solve this problem.

Thank you.
Kirill.

P.S. It seems not depends on dvd player. Now I use Kaffeine, but the same result was on standard K players.

I don't have a solution for you, but I use Debian Lenny, and with the nv or vesa driver I can play TV perfectly and clearly, but with the nvidia proprietary driver TV plays slowly and has static. You might try a different driver if you haven't already done so. I do not know if you were using the same driver under both gnome and kde.

Thank you, teddyt, I'll try to use other drivers
