Debian Hardware Compatibility
Hello everyones,
I plane to buy a new computer and to install a debian Linux. I am allready familliar (just a bite) with Solaris, RedHat, RedHat Enterprise and Mandrake... but I never try to make things really seriously (what a shame! :D) it want to give a try to Debian (sarge) on my new computer. I want to buy the following hardware: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ barton ASUS (AMD) A7N8X_E Deluxe NVIDIA motherboard ASUS Radeon ATI 9600 SE TD 128Mo DDR 2xgeneric DDR-SDRAM 512Mo PC3200 Maxtor Diamond Max Plus9 120Go (8Mo cache) ASUS E616 P1 16/48x IDE ATA66 DVD reader NEC ND-2510 DVD(+/-)RW CD-RW Generic Floppy I have checked ATI, ASUS and Debian websites in order to know if each hardware is supported... looks like it is. But if anyone has allready try some of this hardware on is computer, I will appreciate any piece of advice concerning "how easy" (OK, I am speaking of debian...:D) it will be to configure this stuff...:D I am also looking for a LCD flat screen... someting no very expensive (no more than $400 or 400 euros). But this time I don't found any information about brand or model with a "linux friendly" reputation. If you have any suggestions they will be welcome. Thanks! |

Should all work with the new installer and a 2.6.7 kernel - just installed debian on a nforce2 board with it.
I'd stay away from the ati card - they might be a better deal for M$ systems but their drivers for Linux seem to suck big times. |
It should install fine. When you install the Radeon drivers, use the tutorial on this page http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.sta...installer.html. Also, hold off on buying the LCD screen if you can. LCD manufacturers recently announce cuts in prices, but it will take a little while before you see them.
