Debian etch root login failure

Hi.
I've just installed debian etch, but i can't log in as root at system startup. It says 'Root login not allowed'.
I can login as another user.
Anyone knows what's the problem and how i can login as root?

I got written up by the mods on ubuntu forum last week!?
(for telling some one how to log in as root) hekk if I know it anyone does

but thanks for the info. Nexus. I did not know about those files they mentioned....really..

I mean I can understand if a novice person is working on someone else's system (ie like at work etc.) But if you own your computer I dont see what the big deal is (about being root) You pay for the damn thing and you deserve to crash it!
after all how else are we supposed to learn?
