Debian apt-sites

Hi all!

Well my server has been having a whole bunch of problems for example it just freezes but first it pops-up about 10 pages of errors and stuff like that.

So I was wondering is there a Debian apt site that has the latest stuff on it? The ones I checked still have 2.6.18.6 kernels on them and GCC 4.1 and things like that. So when I tried to compile the kernel myself (since the apt didn't have the new one and since a new kernel should make the errors go away) I got an error that I googled about and got the answer use apt to upgrade GCC 4.1 to 4.2 and everything will work fine. So once again my apt sites have an older version on them and I couldn't just apt the new GCC. So is there a good apt site (ftp, whatever) that has everything on it and is regularly updated?

Please help, I really need a good site!

Assuming that your sig is accurately reflecting your installation, you're still using Sarge. You don't give us enough information to be sure, but I would suspect that by now you have an incredibly messy situation on your hands, probably including bits of Sarge, Etch, and who-knows what else. My recommendation would be to reinstall from scratch after doing some soul-searching about whether or not you can handle Debian. You can't unless you understand how the various releases work, and behave in their relationships with each other.

Sorry that I didn't post this earlier but I have the "etch" version and I have been installing ONLY the etch sites and programs on it. So there's nothing mixed up, just I don't have a clue as to what asp site is the best and those that I tried are really poorly updated.

I run Debian testing (the latest kernel dose not work on both my comps)

You could upgrade to testing http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/ but if the new kernel dose not work for you eather use your old kernel to boot and select linux-image-2.6.22-3 untill the new one gets fixed

you could also use backports.org I have not used this though

A reinstall of all the software (not wiping the comp just reinstalling) might help (apt-get --reinstall install) for every package -- I hade to do this once

are you running Debian stable?

and of course you can handle Debian

post back with your results
