debian 7.3 xfce4 restart and shutdown buttons are grey-out

A couple of days ago, I installed debian 7.3 and it a great distro. But, I'm not sure if it's a bug, but as a regular user when I want to restart or shutdown the computer within xfce4, the restart and shutdown buttons are grey-out. All I do is click on the logout button.

Once I am returned to the console, I then shutdown the computer with sudo shutdown -h now.

Has anyone who uses debian 7.3 has experience this or should I reinstalled xfce4? Thanks

Actually, because UNIX is a multi-user system, regular users don't have permission to shut it down. That's why you have to type sudo shutdown -h now into the terminal, instead of just shutdown -h now. So it's not a bug, just a permissions issue.
PS: it's always great to see another xfce user!

See website
"wiki.xfce.org/faq"

and search in browser for

"unable to shutdown".

To use hal (hardware abstraction layer) check whether you have hal installed?
