Debian 3.0 install on HPT372

Hi everyone,
I tried to install Debian 3.0 on my computer with an Abit KX7-333R board, all my harddrives are connected to the HPT372 Raid controller
(Primary Master + Slave is Maxtor 80GB -> RAID 160GB and Secondary Master 40GB, Slave 160GB)
The RAID contains a Win2000 install i want to keep. Debian should be installed to the 40GB hd.
My problem:
Debian doesn't find any harddisks, where can i get a driver (module?) i can load during the installation and how do i do that?
A friend told me i should first connect the hd to the normal IDE port, then the installation works fine, but LILO can't access my Win2000 and after reconnecting to the HPT controller LILO just tells me "LI 99 99 99 ...") and i can't boot either Linux nor Win2000.

How can i install Debian to a HTP372 connected drive or what do i have to do that LILO finds my Win2000 installation?

Thanks in advance...
Sascha

btw please don't flame me for my bad english it's not my first language

You should use the drivers on this disk:

http://people.debian.org/~blade/install/preload/

I'm not sure you'll succeed with hpt372. I've one too, on a PCI controller, but I couldn't get it working (didn't try Debian yet)

It's not supported by:
  • Suse 9.0 - Yast hangs on "probing hard disks"
  • Gentoo Linux - Can see raid and install the system. However, after compiling kernel and installing LILO with the correct options: VFS unable to open root fs. Don't change with other kernels or other file systems.
  • Red Hat Linux 9 - Need compile your driver, or use the one on the high-point website
  • Knoppix - kernel panic

If someone would know a way to get it running with Gentoo, don't hesitate to drop a message
