I'm installing debian on my "main box", and have hit a series of snags that remind me no matter how comfortable I've become with linux, I'm still a complete newb! The deb installer does not recognize my video card at all, and has problems because there is also a card build into the motherboard. The card itself is a GeForce2 MX 400. I know since it is an nvidia card that I'll have to recompile new drivers from them and redo the kernel and that is fine, but I really need to have some type of X up before I go after those goals, mainly for graphical internet.
I've attached my /var/log/XFree86.0.log below. There are several errors and things not found that someone will hopefully know how to correct.
Besides this, I have 2 other questions that tie into it -
1) Knoppix booted up into the graphical enviornment just fine. Can I reboot into knoppix, and somehow steal the driver or at least get some info from it that will help to configure this on my debian system?
2) I'm a CLI addict, but I don't know how to do something that should be easy and obvious. To post this log into this site, I opened vim, and copied it out 1 sreeen at a time. Isn't there some CLI way to pipe the entire contents of a file into the browser's window?

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".

That driver didn't work for me either. If you don't have a problem with it you can download a binary driver from the nvidia linux site and install it in the command line. You only need a few steps to do.
chmod +x /path/to/nvidiainstaller.bin
follow the instructions etc when you get no errors:
modprobe nvidia
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 (choose the nvidia driver now, complete the setup)
startx
If you don't want to do dpkg-reconfigure open your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 with a text editor you like. Find the part with your video card in it and change the driver to nvidia.

I played with the settings when trying to get Backstreet ruby working... anyways, you should add
BusID "PCI:0:09:0" # or was it "AGP:0:09:0"
to your device (graphics card) section. Check "man XF86Config-4" for more info. I had problems with choosing the right number because for example "lspci" gave the PCI number in hex. XFree uses normal numbers.
