Smile Dealing with a partition

I partitioned my hard drive and installed Ubuntu 12.04 on one part. Question I want to change the 12.04 to Ubuntu 8.04 which suites my needs better. Can I just install the Ubuntu 8.04 and it will overwrite the 12.04. I need to leave the Windows alone for now.

You can overwrite 12.04 with 8.04.
But it is not recommended at all to do that. 8.04 is out of date and totally unsupported, it will never get any security updates or bugfixes.
What exactly is it that makes you think that 8.04 is better for your purpose?
