dd question

when i use dd in fedora core 4 i would type this:

dd if=/media/*cdname* of=*cdname*.iso

this will copy the cd and make it into an iso.

but when i use this in suse it gives me an error saying I am pointing to a directory.

any suggestions on this?

That's because you're passing dd a directory and not a file. The /media/cdname is the mount point of the CD. You want to pass dd the raw device file as in the if parameter, e.g. if=/dev/hdc.
