DCOPserver vs DHCP in SuSE

Now where's the smiley that's crying or tearing out it's hair?

I'll try & err on the side of giving too much info.

SuSE 7.1 for everything except DHclient... which I upgraded to 7.2.

We're running a small network with a server running "YP" for the user logins but root is local.

DHCP under 7.1 was stepping on the /etc/resolv.conf file ... I had a look-see on the web & noticed that others were complaining about this for V7.0 & 7.1 but that they stopped for V7.2. In the 6.x versions there was an easy setting change to stop this that reappeared in the 7.2 set. So I upgraded this set of proggies to V7.2. So far so good (well not really but I'm still looking at the docs so maybe later on that).

But when I upgraded DHclient to v7.2 a new problem appeared. Everytime I try to KDE2 user login thru YP I'm getting the error:

"Please check that the dcopserver is running".

I noticed that others posted here a similar problem when they tried to add users but the posted work-around won't work here because I'm not trying to add users... just to login to the network.

OK, I'm a brand-spankin' newbie with too much power & too few brain cells... But in my "quest for hire" this was the job I got... so I'm gonna suck it up & learn. Hey if they can teach Koko to sign then there may be hope for me.

lol: i needed that.... the weasels were closing in... i have to keep calm & plugging away... whacking the SuSE CDs with a club is likely to be counterproductive... altho it might feel satisfying

if i find out anything useful (yea right) i'll post...

thanks & as the wise sage Arnold Schwarzenegger said "I'll be back"

ciao
