DCOPserver problem
I posted this to the NEWBIE section cause I'm one.
I already know about Linux alright, but can't solve this. I've noticed it's a very common problem at the forums but hadn't found the cure. This is from some errorlog I found: " DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed ICE Connection rejected! DCOPClient::attachInternal. " ...and so on. Both KDE3 and IceWM produced an error messages saying something like: " could not read network connection list. /home/XXXX/.DCOPserverXXXXXXXXXX Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running! " KDE doesn't work at all as a normal user and IceWM only lets me use some applications. Terminal crashes (SIGSERV). As root, everything is very normal. But as we all know, giving root's rights to all users is not very healty. Help?:Pengy: |
reinitialize user KDE
I think that you can fix your problems with dcopserver by having user start all over again with KDE. If you do what I suggest you will probably fix user KDE and also you will lose all of user's KDE settings.
Log in as root. Delete the directory /home/user/.kde and all of its contents. Delete the following files and directories (if they exist): /tmp/kde-user /tmp/ksocket-user /tmp/mcop-user /tmp/orbit-user /tmp/xses-user Then log in as user. KDE should act as if you are logging into KDE for the very first time. |
Well, yes it does act like logging in for the first time, but makes no difference.
It gives me the same "Please check that..." whine and throws me back to the login screen. IceWM starts and lets me browse www but e.g. terminal doesn't work. I've destroyed all other users and am running as a root. I mostly use Windows now on the primary partition... |
Make sure X security is setup correctly

Ok, a new problem occured.
Trying to configure firewall it says the package "shorewall" isn't installed. So I install the package, but when I try to configure the firewall, it gives me the same whine. So I'm reinstalling Linux. Solution for everything, eh? |
