I have an very Serious Problem. I am using RedHat 9 box. LILO version 22.5.8. 80GB Samsung.

I had an improper Shutdown, It forced for file check which asked for root password or other option was Ctrl+d after completing 76%. I gave root password and as shown i executed fsck without any option (I had even did it earlier). There were lots and lots of messages. I just closed my eyes and pressed enter.
I have win98 on /dev/hda1, Win2000 on /dev/hda5 & WinXP on /dev/hda6. I have even edited my fstab & mtab to automatically mount my drives

Ok. So the Prob is that my data on C: is totally lost

Can some one plz tell me what should I do. I know that it has all happened bcoz of pressing enter without reading what whe message was.
Even I cannot start my windows it shows me a message like ntldr missing.

Did you whipe out one partition or all ?

Is the boot still functioning?

Only my /dev/hda1 is whiped. All other partitions are OK.
I can still boot my linux but i can't boot Windows.

Try undelete from the norton utilities or some other "undelete" program.
Don't bother the OS, just go for important files. Read all the info you can get about undelete because it is a critical job!!!!

If that can't help you, I think your out of luck.

I will try for Norton Utilities, at present I am going to try PCInspector File Recovery. Will tell u if that works. Thanks for suggestion.

Hi there,
I have connected my HardDisk to an frnd's PC. He has Win 98.
When i opened my c: (/dev/hdb1 the corrupted drive), windows didn't show me any files in the drive.
When I checked the property of the drive it showned me the exact amount of the space which was free and the rest was been shown as used.
I am very amazed that windows shows that the dirve is used but there is no file shown in the drive.
