First of all, what is your modem brand/model/type? Chances are it is a software modem that will only work on Windows as the company may not have made a driver for linux and no driver has been reverse engineered yet.

Second, if it is a linux compatible modem, what program are you using for dial up?

It looks like you have a software modem (it may never work in linux, only windows). Here's a link to a driver you can try, but it was for Red Hat 7 or so.

Chances are that you need to purchase a hardware modem. This should be an external modem (it will sit on top of your computer instead of plugging into a slot on the motherboard) that plugs into a serial port on the back of your computer. DO NOT buy any USB modems.

Something like the following http://www.gearxs.com/gearxs/product...oducts_id=3464 or http://www.pcdirectsource.com/Item.cfm?ID=930 will work easily in linux.

Ya i have software modem with is fitted in my motherbaord slot so this will not work ????? and i have buy a serial port external modem for it ,and bro u told that usb modem will not but thses r common in market thses days ,brother there is no remdey to make my this soft modem to wok on linux.

That's correct. Software modems (whether PCI slot internal modems or USB modems) generally don't work on linux because the drivers are only written for Windows. External serial port modems have their own chip onboard to do the computation so any computer can just give standard serial calls to the modem.

I did manage to get one of my old internal modems working a long time ago, but there was a lot of hassle and in the end the company who wrote the driver wanted $20 (the demo driver only let you connect at 14.4kbps instead of 56k) to unlock the driver for full use. So I took my $20 and bought an external modem that will work on ANY linux box...

ohhh and there is also no linux diver for my soft modem tooo i think :(,then only think left is to get external serial modem right brother !
Thanks u for all such imp infos
