cvs [commit aborted]: 'root' is not allowed to commit files


while working with cvs root is not able to commit but this is done by other normal users it shows the error
cvs [commit aborted]: 'root' is not allowed to commit files

Then go into your CVS program, and set root up to be able to commit.

Better yet, stop doings things like this as root.

People new to POSIX world may find it hard to understand, but root is an special account for local administration only, and does not poke around on LAN or internet.

Am I missing something? It sounds like r_ramya06 is NOT running the commit as root and it is giving the error that "'root' is not allowed to commit files".

r_ramya06, please verify that this error occurs as a normal user. If it is, please give us more details about the configuration and command you are using.

check if root user is a member of cvs group, use CVS user to playaround with sample repo and not with root user
