Custom Panels?

I'm tired of this "plain" panel. Is it possible to make your own from scratch? I haven't heard anyone speaking of this, but I've seen desktop pictures, and they had custom panels, so.. What im trying to say, do you download them, or create them yourself? And if you create them yourself, can you direct me to a webpage that can get me started?

Thanks a bunch,
Matt

what do you mean by plain? you can alter the colors, pictures, size, location. etc. of the panel through most of the post-install config programs (especially gnome/kde). If you're looking for an all around change, there are plenty of linux themes to go with, as well.
