Cursor straying from target

Hello all. I am a complete Linux newbie and am trying to test out Mandriva One live CD on my system. I have not yet settled upon the Mandriva distribution, so I do not wish to install anything, but I liked the sound of it better than Ubuntu or OpenSUSE and would like to get it working to test it properly.

Right now it is almost impossible to do so, because my mouse is not clicking where the cursor is displayed.
At the very top of the screen the cursor and the target are lined up, but as I move my mouse down, the target moves down more slowly. When the cursor is displayed at the bottom of the screen, the actual target is about half-way up.

I have to alter the xorg.conf file before running the GUI in order to avoid getting a "frequency out of range" message. I only touched the Monitor and Screen sections, following the format suggested in this thread: http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic....3b0c921274a6b8

I am using a Logitech MX510 optical mouse.

your mouse exists in HCL but it can be ps/2 or usb, which is yours pls?

2) if ps/2 try going into mdv control centre and dumb your mouse down to a basic mouse to see if that improves the situation...if so improve it to another model and so on
