The problem is pretty obvious at the end of /etc/fstab. That last line has been split into two, and some characters have been deleted. That appears to be something for VirtualBox, which I don't have installed, so I can't tell what should be there.

Well, that is kind of reassuring. Maybe I had that error for a while but didn't notice and the world didn't end! Thanks again for your help, and wishing you and your loved ones a great new year.
