I'm using curl above to try and downlosd the SuSE 9.3 distribution isos but the files are only 1k no way are they thae full iso I'm new to this and not sure what I'm doing wrong

It died in 2007.
Try openSUSE 12.3 instead.

Actually the host is not mine it belongs to another individual and they are running SuSE 9.3. It's a really old 386. I've been trying to find the libXrender and libXtst rpm for that distribution and was thinking that they may be on the distribution CD and I could install them If the link is dead then I'll need to keep looking. Thanks for the feedback

if you give some hardware details, at least the cpu and ram, but the more the better, we can suggest a suitable and current distro.
Old hardware doesn't necessarily need to run old software
