How did you invoke crontab ?

Is it in your spam box at gmail ?

Have you got mail on your system ? (which mail)

In cron its best to specify the full path to cmds like mail/mailx. The default env in cron is minimal.
Did cron issue a warning email internally ie try mailx from the cmd line and see if anything is there.

Look in your
/var/log
for the maillog, to see if the message is send or not
Look in the mailbox from root or the user, for error messages from cron
