crontab as root

I've been reading that crontab schedules only work while you are logged in. However, I've been creating all my crontab entries as root, and they seem to be running whether I'm logged in or not.

Is it a case that root crontab runs whoever is logged in, or even if no-one is logged in?

Thanks

all crontab entries, whatever the user, are run as long as the crond is running, so as long as tyhe machine is turned on. You dont need to have a user logged in.
