Creating Image from existing installed CentOs

Hello All,

i have just finished installing (after hard work ) Centos 5.4 x86 configured with Snort & Snorby as frontend web, i would like to create from this installation kind of image that could fit to almost any hardware type.

My question is is it possible to achieve it ? if yes please advice how .

Thanks

Code:

dd if=/dev/sda of=centos.img

I know a lot of people use dd but anytime you change hardware you run a risk of odd issues. The only real portable solution to me would be to make a virtual machine. That VM would then run on a standard VM application that has always the same hardware.
