Creating a Linux Live CD

Hi,

I am still very much of a Linux newbie, so hopefully I am not asking anything too stupid.

I have a physical Centos 5.8 machine. I also have a Windows 7 laptop who's USB isn't working.

I wish to create a Linux Live CD. Since I someone know Centos, I would like to use that distribution if I have the choice.

I found some ISOs, however, that are big 2 DVD size files. That isn't what I want, is it?

Also, is this something I need to create from Linux, or can I download it on my Windows PC?

Thanks!

Making a live cd/dvd is quite a task for a newbie.

Have you tried an already made live cd/dvd of Centos? https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/

There is a similar Scientific live cd/dvd and the similar Fedora live cd/dvd.

See www.distrowatch.com for almost any of the top 40. They all have a live cd to use.

There is some app that can take your install maybe and then create a live cd/dvd. I forget the name, it gets posted at LQ often too. This may be one of them. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to..._use_a_Live_CD

I believe the OP just wants a Centos-live-cd
https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/
If I'm wrong there is also info on the above link that tells how to create also
My bad jefro I just noticed that we have same link, but, it does say how to create 1 though.

Thanks xlcor, I looked into UnetBootin but am not sure that is what I was looking for.

Thanks jefro and EDDY1, Yes before even posting my post, I experimented with your mentioned post. Before even making the disk, I got held up trying to get the tools as described by https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/wiki/GetToolset. I tried it again with --skip broken, and I still got the "There are unfinished transactions remaining. You might consider running yum-complete-transaction first to finish them." warning, but it seemed to install. What do you think the errors referred to? Also, note that I "might consider running yum-complete-transaction first to finish them. The program yum-complete-transaction is found in the yum-utils package". As seen at the bottom of my script, I couldn't run this program. For educational purposes along, I would like to know why. Regardless, I will continue trying to create a disk, and will beg for help if needed

Thanks!

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
                        package-cleanup --dupes
                        rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
The program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.
[root@localhost ~]# yum-complete-transaction
-bash: yum-complete-transaction: command not found
[root@localhost ~]#

There is a few issues. Maybe so other user can get all of them figured out. I see that it looks like your yum is stuck in an unstable mode at the time. Might be caused by other updates or even shutting off computer during yum prior. Might be hard to fix that.

The missing things can sometimes just be found and manually installed and see if the deal work.

Others may tell how to fix the depsolve issue.
