Create PXE boot of running system

Hi,

I am somewhere between a basic and advanced Linux user who is looking for some advice. I have an installed CentOS system that has some tools installed on it that are used in our environment to update firmware and bios files as well as some test scripts.I would like to create a image or rootfs (.gz)that I can use to boot from a PXE server. I have a working CentOS PXE server already. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

Howdy and welcome to LQ.

My best advice is to start with a knoppix live cd/dvd from 3.3 to 5.x maybe. I haven't tested the later ones. Knoppix set's up a pxe server with some scripts. You don't need to know the scripts exactly but you should see the results of what it does. From setting tftp and pxeconf.0 file to the image it sends over is a good easy way to learn.

It shouldn't matter a lot what source you have to use so I might be tempted to use SuseStudio.com and make an iso, keep it small. Use memdisk to run it. It should have pxe in it.

Otherwise you'll either need to find a source that has support for pxe and uncompress it and add what you want in and compress it back up.
