Create my own driver

Hello I am interested in compiling my own driver. It is a driver for adaptech ich7r raid controler. Aka fakeraid. I am aware of linux built in software raid but would perfer to use a driver. I have windows installed on the raid array already. I want to make the driver for fedora core 6. Can anyone point me in the right direction to getting started compiling my own driver. The manufacture said they would supply me with the files I need to create one.
