Create a normal “user” with “shut down” privileges?

I would like to know if it is possible to create a normal “user” with “shut down” privileges?

It is for this IBM EXS at the office that is using some scale down Linux. I don’t know the actual version. Is there some command for this? I have searched online but I can find none.

We want to let a junior user (me) do shutting at the end of the day, rather than have the administrator do this.

Thank you very much for your help.

The mechanism for this is to add you to the sudoers file, restricted so you only get to do "sudo shutdown -h now" (or whatever).

Look in man sudoers, in the examples... the operator alias. That's you.

You could probably use sudo for this type of thing. Your admin can run visudo and enter
userid ALL=NOPASSWD: localhost=/sbin/shutdown -h now
To shutdown you would then do
sudo shutdown -h now
