Crack cryptsetup password

Hi,

I forgot cryptsetup password of /dev/sdd4.

cryptsetup -v luksOpen /dev/sdd4 sdd4

Device /dev/sdd4 is not a valid LUKS device.
Command failed with code 22: Device /dev/sdd4 is not a valid LUKS device.

I want to crack the cryptsetup password, but it is not asking the passphrase itself. I want to know why it is not asking passphrase and how to crack cryptsetup password.

Regards,
Jojan Paul.

I'm afraid you need to know the password, cracking is not an option.
cryptsetup isLuks /dev/sdd4

using cryptsetup -v luksDump /dev/sdd2 sdd2
I have got,
LUKS header information for /dev/sdd2.

/dev/sdd4 wasn't the exact drive which I was looking for.

The whole point of encrypting the drive is that if you don't have the password you can't get in. What use would encryption be if it could be cracked by following a few instructions?
If you've forgotten your password you've lost your data. That's how it is supposed to work and if anybody does come up with an answer other than that then I'll be looking at other ways of encrypting my hard drives and, I'm sure, questions will be asked all over the internet as to why LUKS is broken.
