cpu usage


how can i check the cpu usage?
im using ubuntu.

a nice graphical representation can be had by (assuming you're running gnome):

right-click on an empty portion of the panel (where your Applications, Places, etc pulldowns are),
click "Add to panel"
then search for "System Monitor."

now you can watch your CPU usage as a little line graph. You can do memory usage, network activity, swap, and a bunch of other things with that too.
