cPanel warning message

Hello all,

I have just found this simple tutorial to install Cpanel on my Fedora core 9 machine.

I wanted to know what this message was reffering to?

Warning !!! Warning !!! WARNING !!! Warning !!! Warning

cPanel requires a fresh/clean server!

If you are serving websites off this server (and are

not already running cPanel) this installer will

What config files is it referring to?

I managed to get this error too:

Code:

Could not install gcc, please check your package manager! at ./install line 488.

Did this cancel the install? If not, how can I uninstall cpanel. Getting a license is too much of a bother.

IF was me...

Backuped all config files, on real, backuped ALL. Installed cPanel, and compare the config files before/after cPanel, so intelligently merged the old and new configs to get my old configs with the new cPanel configs. May be simple, but tiring.

Wait a better answer while you find a better way

I know I made a big mistake! How can I remove cpanel

Another problem I have is that I can install squirrelmail and dovecot using yum?! Is there a particular repo I need?

I am a noob by the way!!

Have you already some website running? If no, you can remove cPanel quietly. If yes, backup all data and try remove following the manual instructions.

About email, you can see this link http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/, seems good. Adapt to your system isn't hard, I think.

Yes, I have the website running, but its only for testing. I think I will just leave it as it is!

To be honest, I am just testing the website, in 3 weeks time I will be moving to a new server.

Do you think it will cause me problems? I mean, I have re-installed things to remove configurations that cpanel may have made and now I am continuing to setup a mail server. Would I get problems from Cpanel?

I think no. What happens will be from now on. But how you are learning and testing (as me), reinstall and configure all again will be good, each tentative improve us, in my view

I agree, I think I will clean everything up and start again. I guess it will be practice for me to learn how to configure things again!

run

#yum install gcc

and try again ;)
