Question cp :cannot stat input/output error.

Hello,
I was using Windows7 and it suddenly got corrupted and i couldn't able to get data backup. Then i tried using Ubuntu Live CD and connecting it to my Dell XPS laptop to perform data backup. But while doing so i faced a problem while copying my files from my NTFS hard drive to my USB hard drive.
it is :
cp: cannot stat input/output error.

I am not sure while this error is getting so i searched on net and found that might be my NTFS file system got corrupted so i tried command : ntfsfix to resolve it.
it had resolved it but still i am getting the same error and i couldn't get backup of my important data.
So what to do to get data backup ??

I have faced this problem a few times (due to non proper unmounting). Trying to repair ntfs using a non-Windows OS _never_ worked for me. What worked for me, is plugging the drive to a Windows-running machine and running CHKDSK on the disk.
