couple X and Gnome related questions
Hi,
i am using redhat 8.0. i have some Gnome/X related questions. i would appritiate if someone can help a) Which files are used under Gnome/X to store configurations such as desktop icons, the launchers, window managers in use etc. What i want to do is to copy these files from a system that i have setup according to mypreferences and port them to my other pc (port as in copy paste). Would that work b) I am a bit confused on where the line ends between the desktop environment and the window manager and can file managers effect the look and feel of desktop environment. In nautilus , which is a file manager, if i change the theme from BlueCruve to someother, how come all the icons like /home etc change as well. was't that supposed to be part of window manager/ desktop environment responsiblities. Does that mean i have to copy some nautilus configuration files as well ???? c) how can i add some script to be executed when the system starts up (not when user logs in). and do i have to run such scripts under root permissions.how ??? |
The configuration files for the gnome desktop will be stored in the home folder of individual users with the name ".gnome" , which is hidden.
If you want to execute some scripts when the system starts up, you can add those commands in the /etc/rc.d/rc.x where x in the runlevel where you want to execute. |
thanks
One problem solved.... thanx
