Couldn't extract tar.gz file on Redhat 9
Hello,
I am very new to Linux, Recently I istalled Redhat 9 on my Toshiba Tecra8000 laptop it works fine. I wanted to install some java related application such as Java and Java Application servers, I downloaded Linux version installation files .bin and tar.gz as well in Windows machine and copied into CD Rom tried extracting/installing the files on Linux. It says "It appears to be invalid format". Also I tried .bin file it says "Could not execute binary file". The files I am trying has full permission to execute and I have root permission too.. I don't know what is wrong with my file format or CD creation method??? Anyone have solutions... PLease help me.. Thanks Rams. |
Please include the exact names of the files you are working with and the exact commands you are using to try and install them.
Cut and paste them here if you can. Did you use: tar xzvf filename.tar.gz Did you try: sh ./filename.bin Did you read this (if this is what you were trying to install): http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/jre/install-linux.html Etc.... |
Did you use:
tar xzvf filename.tar.gz Did you try: sh ./filename.bin This should work |
