Could not connect to server localhost(MozillaMail)
 

Hi there,

I'm unable to connect to localhost using Mozilla Mail. However I'm able to connect using web browser(http://localhost). I'm the root user. I get the following message whenever I try to read my mails from localhost using Mozilla Mail.

Could not connect to server localhost; the connection was refused.

How can I make my Linux PC to accept connection. Please help me out.

Why are you trying to connect to yourself? Localhost is your own machine. Perhaps you've got a web server running, but not a mail server. They're not installed by default on most linux distros. I'll help ya, but I need a bit more information, particularly your motives, so I can steer you in the right direction.

Actually I'm writing mailing program in PHP language which sends an email. I am writing HTML mails with attachments. I can't check it on mailx whether it is working properly or not. I can check it on Mozilla Mail as it is an advanced Email client for HTML and attachments.

I can't check it in real time by sending it to the Internet as my ISP mail server needs SMTP authentication which unfortunately is not suppoted ny PHP language.

No, I'm sorry, I don't understand. I don't mean to be rude, but do you understand how email and email programs work, in general? It seems like you're trying to send and receive email locally, but you don't have a mail server running on your machine. If you don't have a mail server that supports POP or something on your machine, there's nothing for MozillaMail to connect to.

For what you're doing, I would recommending signing up for a host (there are some free ones out there that support php) and putting your php script up there, and running it. That way you won't have to deal with your ISP's restrictions.

Can you send me the link of these free hosts having support for php.

Geocities does, but it's ad-supported. Actually, I'm pretty sure most free hosts out there support php. Just google around for free hosts and see what you get.
